Exhibition: June 27 - July 23
The Art Doesn’t Stop!
As summer kicks into gear, we’re thrilled to present the second exhibition of the Wasagaming Community Arts 2025 season. Running from June 27 to July 23, this vibrant show features the outstanding work of Aryn Robidoux, Anne Marie Syslak, Louise Renée, Elaine Rawling, and Sara Bulloch.
Join us for the Opening Reception on Saturday, June 28 at 7:00 PM — all are welcome! Come meet the artists, enjoy a drink and some nibbles, and take in an evening of conversation and beautiful art.

Intro to Photography with Dustin Glaseman
Instructor: Dustin Glaseman — Dustin was raised north of Brandon, Manitoba, on hobby farms surrounded by wheat fields and wild spaces. In 2015, his wife Elizabeth bought him his first camera, a Nikon J2, just before their honeymoon in Costa Rica. The Osa Peninsula changed his life. Enamoured by the vast biodiversity of the forest and the excitement of photographing wildlife, the seed of a new calling was planted.
Description: If you have a passion for photography, art, and the joy of spending time in outdoors, then sign up now to uncover the magic of nature and wildlife photography with workshop host and photographer Dustin Glaseman. Whether you have a high-end camera, or basic cellphone, this workshop will help you hone your creativity to foster outings filled will fun and exploration. During our time together, we will investigate topics like the artistic side of composition, how light can change your photos, and how to use your environment to bring colour and energy to your shots. While the session will include some technical discussion, the focus will be on learning to enjoy the natural world through your camera and is geared towards those looking to begin a journey into photography. Workshop will include a walk through the Visitor’s Centre gardens to hone your skills.

Anniversary Celebration

This year, we’re hosting a special Tribute Exhibition in the front gallery to honour our founders, Edythe Holden and Joyce Smedegaard. This exhibition will showcase their remarkable artwork, generously shared by family members and private collectors. We’re excited to welcome the wider community and the families of Edythe Holden and Joyce Smedegaard for a special reception to honour our legacy and celebrate the vision that gave life to WCA.

Needle Felt Wasagaming Wildlife with Judy Zeke
Instructor: Judy Zeke - After retiring from a career in art education, Judy moved with her husband to Clear Lake where she now focuses her time creating detailed wool sculptures of local wildlife and people’s pets. Her work and teaching raise funds for animal rescue and rehabilitation.
Description: In this beginner-friendly class, you'll choose to make a fox, raccoon, bear or beaver using unspun wool and a special barbed needle. Step-by-step guidance and demonstrations will help you feel confident as you sculpt your own little forest friend. Make a charming companion to brighten your home or cabin.

Beaded Moccasins with Edna Nabess (Part 2/3)
Instructor: Edna Nabess — Edna was born and raised in Cormorant, Manitoba and is a proud member of the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation. Edna was taught the traditions of her Cree culture by her mother and grandmother. Edna is a well-known artisan creating one-of-a-kind designs straight from her heart, reflecting the proud life and soul of her heritage.
Create your own beautiful hand-sewn and beaded moccasins. Three evenings are needed to complete one pair. This workshop provides a unique experience to learn traditional sewing skills and beading artistry.
Price: $140 Members, $145 Non-Members

Rawhide & Jelly Roll Maker’s Market
Wasagaming Community Arts is delighted to present our annual Rawhide & Jellyroll Makers Market, taking place July 19 & 20, 2025, at the Onanole Recreational Centre.
This much-loved summer market brings together a vibrant community of makers, artists, and creative entrepreneurs. Wander through the Centre and discover handcrafted goods, unique artworks, and one-of-a-kind treasures — all while meeting the talented people behind them. Rawhide & Jellyroll is more than just a market; it’s a space to connect and celebrate local creativity.

Oil Painting with Kathleen Lagasse
Instructor: Kathleen Lagasse — Kathleen's passion for art, which began at a young age, has evolved into a successful career. In 2015, Kathleen and her husband opened a gallery in Souris, building on Kathleen's established reputation as an art teacher. Kathleen's commitment to her craft earned her a 'Woman of Distinction' nomination in Brandon in 2016.
Description: Great introduction to oil paints! Finish a painting in 2-3 short hours using “wet-on-wet” technique. 10-14 day drying time. Choose from a variety of styles.

Watercolour Painting: Rocky Shore - with Elaine Rawlings
Instructor: Elaine Rawlings — Elaine Rawlings is a retired teacher from Hamiota, Manitoba. She has been a member of the Hamiota Art Club since the early 1980s. Elaine works mostly in watercolours but has explored watercolour batik, gouache resist, scratch art, line and wash, and pen and ink.
Description: Spend a morning creating your own 6”x9” watercolour painting, exploring a variety of artistic techniques.

As the summer sun hits full stride, so does the art at Wasagaming Community Arts!
Our third exhibition of the season brings bold, dynamic work to the gallery — featuring the extraordinary talents of Frederick Spence and Patrick Paul. We’re thrilled to showcase a powerful range of contemporary artists, whose practices reflect their deep cultural roots and fresh creative energy.

Ojibwe Woodland-Style Art with Patrick Paul
Instructor: Patrick Paul — Patrick was born in Winnipeg and currently lives with his family in Dauphin, located in Treaty 2 territory. He is an Ojibwe artist who paints in the tradition of the Woodlands school of art. Woodlands art is a representation of a culture whose myths are rooted in the Canadian Shield, where rugged forests, erratic boulders, and glistening waters as introduced by Norval Morrisseau.
Description: This workshop pays homage to the traditional Ojibwe art style with a unique twist specific to Patrick Paul.

Linocut Printmaking with Morgan McKinnon
Instructor: Morgan McKinnon — Morgan McKinnon is a printmaker from Saskatchewan and has been our Youth Art Instructor here at Wasagaming Community Arts for the past three years. She is a senior printmaking student at the University of Regina, and has a passion for sharing her love and knowledge of art.
Description: In this beginner friendly class you will learn the ins and outs of Lino cut printing with easily accessible tools. You can create stunning works of art, that can be printed in multiples. As well as learn how to recreate this process in your home.

Floral Ink and Watercolour Painting with Myra Clark
Instructor: Myra Clark — Myra Clarke is a watercolour artist who has opportunity to spend her summers at Clear Lake. The varied landscapes of the park are a continual source of inspiration in her watercolours.
Description: Using ink with watercolour is a way to loosen up your painting, and a great technique for creating a watercolour travel journal. Spend an afternoon creating your own floral ink and watercolour painting. All materials will be supplied. No experience is required, as the workshop will cover the basic concepts of watercolour painting.
Price: $40 for Members; $45 for Non-Members

In August, we will present an exciting exhibition featuring artists who share a deep connection to WCA, Clear Lake, and Riding Mountain National Park. We’re thrilled to showcase the work of: Kathleen Baleja, Karen Clark, Jordan Miller, Brooke Piche, Robin Rice, and Karen Holden.
Join us for the Opening Reception on Saturday, August 16 at 7:00 PM! It promises to be a memorable evening — a chance to reflect on our 55-year legacy and celebrate the artists, volunteers, and creative community that have helped shape it.

Copper Embossing with Kathleen Baleja
Instructor: Kathleen Baleja — Kathleen Baleja is a multimedia artist. She is an avid outdoors enthusiast and yoga teacher. A reverence for the land is evident in her collection of rocks, fossils, shells, cones, seed pods, feathers, wasp nests, lichen and a 400-year-old hammer stone.
Description: Copper embossing is an ancient technique that involves raising a design on a thin copper sheet by pressing from the reverse side

Plein Air Painting Workshop with Weiming Zhao
Instructor: Weiming Zhao — Weiming Zhao grew up in the 1960’s in a remote part of China during the Cultural Revolution, finding solace in drawing and painting. Zhao taught himself English from a book on pronunciation and eventually settled with his family in Brandon, Manitoba. After a hiatus from painting of almost three decades, Zhao’s passion for art was rekindled in the summer of 2003 in Lake of Woods, Ontario. It was there that he took up his paintbrushes once again and has not stopped since, resulting in thousands of paintings and sketches created en plein air.
Description: This 5-hour session is designed for beginner to intermediate painters who want to build a strong foundation in outdoor painting, while deepening their understanding of composition, value, and color in landscape art. In this workshop, we will cover:
Composition: Learn how to simplify the scene, find a strong focal point, and organize your canvas for maximum visual impact.
Value: Understand the importance of light and dark relationships to create depth and atmosphere.
Colour: Explore colour harmony, temperature, and mixing techniques that bring vitality and realism to your landscapes.
Through a combination of demonstration, discussion, and individual guidance, you'll be supported in starting and completing a plein air oil painting from life.

Canada Day Activities & Pop-Up
Come celebrate Canada Day at Wasagaming Community Arts! Bring your kids along to participate in a scavenger hunt to win prizes and participate in some Canada Day themed crafts! We also offer face painting and games! All activities are free of charge and will be available from 10am until 4 PM.
We are also excited to welcome Irene Patterson to the front lawn of the WCA for a Canada Day Pop Up featuring her maple leaf art.
Irene is a Western Canadian artist who expresses her love and respect for both nature and her country by painting scenes on natural leaves. In more involved pieces, painted natural leaves are incorporated into larger scenes. The medium Irene uses is acrylic. She began focusing on "leaf art" in 1996 using a self-developed technique. Her work has a distinct quality that is appealing in its unusual format.

Each piece reflects the artists’ deep connection to nature and the landscapes that have inspired their own creative journeys.
